HOW SHAKOPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHANGED THEIR CLEANING & FACILITY PROGRAM

BACKGROUND

Multiple vendors, minimum orders, and cost led the Shakopee Public School district to look for alternative suppliers in 2019. Little did they know, they would partner with the team who would not only meet their objectives but who would also collaborate with them to combat the pandemic, COVID-19.  

The Shakopee Public School District serves more than 8,000 students in one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Twin Cities. They have 11 locations, over 1200 staff, and are home to the 2nd largest high school in Minnesota. Their goal is to provide the best opportunities for their students, helping them achieve their highest potential and succeed in our diverse world. 

OBJECTIVE

Shakopee Public School District was looking for an efficient, cost-effective solution for their cleaning supplies and equipment without a minimum order requirement. They had several objectives when they began their search, including: 

  • Monitor program compliance 
  • Reduce service response time 
  • Reduce costs 
  • Consolidate vendors 
  • Resolve past challenges 

SOLUTIONS

Before offering solutions to the Shakopee School District, Innovative’s Account Executive and Facility Team conducted assessments with key stakeholders to understand their challenges. Not only did they talk with district leaders but also staff and janitors who use the products daily. The team then proposed a district-wide custom solution which included the following: 

  • Dedicated team to provide support, site surveys, and onsite training including manufacturer partners – Kimberly Clark, Diversey, Papco, Bona 
  • Standardized soap, tissue, and towel dispensers throughout the district  installed over 2,700 dispensers 
  • 24-hour equipment service and repair 
  • Online ordering with management controls 
  • Consolidated product lists to enable program compliance 
  • Reduction of on-hand inventory 
  • Free, next day delivery 
  • No minimum order requirements 

OUTBREAK RESPONSE

In 2019, Shakopee Public Schools experienced a large outbreak of influenza, with more than 5% of the student body missing school in a week. Innovative’s partnership enabled the school district to have an immediate, proactive response. Working together, the team developed a plan that included: 

  • Alternative products to enhance safety  
  • Additional training to ensure proper use of systems 
  • Supplemental protocols  

The plan impacted the cleanliness in the buildings which in turn supported the health of students and decreased the absenteeism rateBecause of Shakopee’s trusted partnership with Innovative, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the combined team was, once again, prepared to work together to identify the best products and protocols to combat the virus. The solution included new cleaning protocols which led to enhanced chemicals and more frequent cleaning to protect the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

RESULTS

Shakopee Public Schools now has a consistent district-wide solution which saved them 20% and allowed them to reduce the number of vendors they work with. With a responsive and knowledgeable team, they now have the support they can depend on to fulfill their goal with safety in mind, to provide the best opportunities for their students, helping them achieve their highest potential and succeed in our diverse world.
